Preparing Your Car For Resale
Are you planning to trade in or resell your current car? There are various factors that determine a vehicle's resale value such as, among others, the car model, its
age, mileage and overall condition. Although a car depreciates over time, there are things that you can do the increase the value of it. If you are planning to resell your vehicle, plan ahead
and keep it in the best shape possible. Below are the simple steps you must initiate to prepare you vehicle for resale or trade-in:
Clean You Car. First impression is the last impression! A clean car is good for the
eye. Clean your car thoroughly and fix all the minor maintenance issues. There two ways to do
that: head to a car wash or do it by yourself.
Basic Operation Check. Inspect your lights and replace any fused lights or blown fuses.
Check locks, windows, wipers, warning signals, the trunk release, mirrors, seat belts, defrosters,
horn, air conditioning and heat systems and seat adjusters.Make sure that everything is working
properly.
Check Overall Appearance. Fix chips, nicks, dents and scratches in your car's paint.
Ensure all the wheels match and are filled, and remove any decals and stickers. Internally, clean the floors,
mats and seats, along with the panels and dashboard. Remove all personal items from the glove compartment
and trunk. Check for any sounds and noise in the doors, hood and trunk, and try to eliminate them. Don’t forget to check the air pressure and top up your tires if they are low and consider replacing them if
they are worn.
Top Up All Fluids. Fill all fluids. These include brake fluid, power steering fluid and
wiper fluid, along with oil, coolant and antifreeze. Check for leaks and inspect under the hood for any
dramatic decreases in fluid levels.
Test You Car. Conduct your own road test. Make sure the vehicle easily starts and the
gear selector functions right. Check if the steering performance is still in control. Make sure the
acceleration and brakes are operating effectively.
Keep You Car Records. Keep the maintenance records, service records, warranty receipts for tires,
batteries, etc. as much as possible. The potential buyer might want to review them to make sure the car's maintenance was done on
a timely basis. Well-maintained records show that you care for your vehicle.
